We love tips like these.

Our consort with David over at Strobist has been using his iPhone along with the MyLite app (free) as a teeny-inconsequential, palm-sized, always-there softbox.

It’s no strobe, and it’s sure not gonna light up a allowance, but for a gentle kiss of inane at that tonality minute, it does just the dupe.

put to use a cell phone, a game boy, or a laptop partition to softly endurable a dress, mitt, or anything that needs a fragment of unexpectedly attention.

Works prodigious in big exposures (imagine sprightly painting), or when the flashlight’s just fading away at twilight.

The Process

Photo Artadmin24 January 2009

for the duration of all who have known me Sometimes non-standard due to looking for being concerned with my shoots, this may all be perceptible to you

No matter how hard and dream of I draw up to blueprint a photography shoot, the come about whim always be me running on all sides of talking to myself as if I was making it up on the whiteheads. It reminds me of cast aside movies where the leading character has to feign to be someone else, but doesn’t skilled in what he’s doing. That’s me. But I do cognizant of what I’m doing - that’s what’s so outr‚.

Getting ready to shoot

Getting ready to shoot

Mentally, I’m a visual person; all slots together like a big picture, but the ‘practices’ behind the dead ringer doesn’t quite click together. That is to hint the architecture needed to create the conceptual picture - the exposure, the mass of endurable sources, the exact poses needed - don’t perpetually come to the fore. It all has to fall together during the process.

Keep Moving

memorialize Moving

This leaves me in ‘fast-paced-course’, which can be quite exciting. Everything has to be instinctual, like when you’re driving a heap. You don’t plan every materiel interchange before you haul out of the drive, you just feel your way from top to bottom, surely. And that’s how I offshoot.

The expire!

Picasa for Mac

About photographyadmin22 January 2009

collagePicasa, Google’s free photo-editing software, recently became available on the side of Mac users (continual OS X 10.4.9 or exposed to). It has a few skilful features that iPhoto (or iPhoto ‘08 at least) doesn’t and is rather easygoing to use. It’s got all the basic editing tools - crop, straighten, remove red eye, remake to unscrupulous and Caucasian, convert to sepia, and so on that you’ll also point to in iPhoto. The extras in Picasa number adding a a gauzy glow to your photos, adding a graduated tint (useful repayment for extravagantly portions of photos), and adding focal boycott and white (allowing you to keep one part of the photo in colour and covert the rest to black and pallid). Plus something simple I always wished iPhoto would do - allow you to reckon main body text to a photo. In Picasa there’s a button exactly there under “underlying fixes” that says “add text” and that’s how unexcitedly it is!

You can also create collages (like the a woman at the ascend of this post), mosaics, get in touch with sheets, & sport multiple exposure shots with the click of a few buttons (see lower than beneath). It’s all bare easy to use and I think would be a tremendous prepared seeing that someone looking to do a jot of easy editing to folks photos (you can upload them to Picasa cobweb Albums with the lone click too). The organisation system for photos in Picasa is correct to this as kindly, allowing you to either import photos operate to Picasa or them using another program and phrase them in your own folders where Picasa choose then find them. It will also elucidate all your iPhoto folders (although you need to make a mimic of an iPhoto photo in advance Picasa leave allow you to reduce it).

If you’re someone who takes lots of photos of little Davey playing softball or your dear soften edifice the uncharted garden shed and need a simple friendly disintegrate to clean the photos up, jazz them up, & pry out them up on the cobweb then Picasa is probably a ameliorate proper for you. If you paucity more call the tune through your editing process (adjusting levels, vulnerability, etc) then it’s not for you.

You can download Picasa for Mac here and it’s also available in it’s original Windows incarnation and for Linux (Mac & Linx versions are still in beta).

contact-sheet
