School’s Out For Summer…

Photo Artadmin28 June 2009

I wanted this photo to look old and sort of vacant, since it is of an empty school parking lot in June. It’s been a very long time since such a scene mattered at all to me. Seemed reasonable the photo should reflect that distant memory. I never cared much for school back then. Fortunatelty, I’ve come to respect and appreciate education like never before. If only I knew then what I know now, I’d own like a million shares of Microsoft. ;) Life goes on.

Telephone Pole Sky

Photo Artadmin28 June 2009

Did I mention I like photographing telephone  poles? Again, I took some creative license with this one. No, I’m afraid the sky wasn’t that shade of whatever that colour is. Turquiose, maybe? Some tuning in ACDSee got it to what you see. I’m also very much excited by cloud formations. Don’t ask me why. Maybe I just don’t get out enough. Anyway, here we are and tere it is. Hope you like it as much as I do.

The B & W Beach

Obviously I doctored this photo. When I took it I already had this or something close to it in mind. I’m working with very limited photo editing software (ACDSee Pro), so I can’t really get all I want to get out of it. None the less, I think it turned out okay. With Photoshop CS4 and a nice dSLR, this could have beeen spectacular. For now I’ll have to settle with “nice.”

Don’t Bug Me!

Photo Artadmin28 June 2009

Col.Danforth.Trail-188-edit

I tried a macro shot before of a bug on a flower, but couldn’t get focus. After rereading the manual to my point & shoot, I figured out how to take better photos of small critters like this little bee. (Click on the photo for a full sized view) Of course it’s nothing like what you’d get from a good dSLR, or from someone who knew what they were doing, for that matter, but I still like it. The tough part was getting the bug to sign a release form so I could post the photo here.

Telephone Lines

I gotta say, I love photos of old wooden telephone poles and lines. I saw this one and had to capture it. Nothing original, but what the heck, right? I just wish there had been some lovely clouds in the background sky to give some contrast between hard lines and soft cotton balls on blue. I’ve got some others coming up, with the background clouds to boot. I’m definitelty keeping this spot in mind for a sunrise treck, assuming I can ever drag my arse out of bed before sunrise.

Stoned!

SATURDAY JUNE 27, 2009:    My buddy and I decided to hit the trails for a long hike today. We couldn’t decide where to go and ended up at Colonel Danforth Trail, in east Toronto by the lake. We arrived around 1:15 PM and walked until almost 6:00 PM. Covered a lot of ground and my legs are already squacking about it. The sun was harsh and I’m now a lovely shade of lobster – thanks for coming out. Slather me with garlic/herb butter and I’m ready to be plated. I took 211 photos today. I’ll post a few of my faourties in days to come, assuming I don’t succumb to melanoma. For now, here are some rocks on the beach. Looked cool to me so I snapped them. They didn’t seem to mind. Now, time for a quick shower and some relax time on the back deck. Summer, my friends, has arrived.

My First Rainbow

Photo Artadmin26 June 2009

RainbowI was driving home from a movie tonight and saw a beautiful rainbow. Of course, I didn’t have my camera with me. But it was still present in the sky when I got home, so I raced upstairs to my second floor deck and snapped a bunch of pics. This one I liked best and did a bit of editing before posting. It’s a start, right?
