I gotta say I’m really happy with this photo of downtown Toronto. It was taken from Tommy Thompson Park. When I took the shot I honestly didn’t know what to expect. I knew the city would be in silhouette, but would that ruin the shot, I didn’t know. The original was darker than this, but I played around with it and got it to something that I think works. Anyway, here’s what our fair city looks like in silhouette at sunset.
Came across this little piece of plastic on the ground during my trip to the Spit. Thought it would make a nice photo. I took a handful of shots, but this is the one I liked best. I did some editing, but not much.
Here’s another photo of the clouds from yesterday just before sunset. Even my photos don’t do it justice. It was just amazing. With a quality dSLR these shots would have looked much better. I am very seriously considering buying a Nikon D90. I know I can’t afford it, but I really want to get deeper into photography. I already passed on a George Brown College course on photography because one of the pre-requisites was owning a dSLR camera. The next course is mid-November. If I want to take it (I do) I’ll need a dSLR. It would be best if I bought it now so I could learn to use it in the meantime. Of course, the prudent side of my brain is saying, You can’t be spending money on cameras when you don’t have a job. Yeah, I know, but right now I happen to have time to learn how to use a new camera and to hone my skills. Once I’m back to work full time, time for my hobby will be very limited. To be honest, I think I really want to become a professional photographer. It’ll take years to achieve, I know, but now’s the time to start. Sorry, probably more information that you were looking for, right?
I really got lucky yesterday with some interesting cloud cover. This photo of a lone sailboat making it’s way along the waters of Lake Ontario is a good example. I’m really happy with how it turned out. Hope you like it.
Yesterday afternoon I was bored and decided to go for a long walk down at (aka Leslie Street Spit). You may recall I’ve already been down there and posted a bunch of photos from that outing. The place is truly spectacular. This time I was able to spend far more time down there. Man, the place is HUGE! I arrived around 5:00 PM and walked until almost 7:30 PM and still never covered half the place. In fairness, I was stopping to snap photos left, right and centre. I took a few hundred. This is the first of a handful that will make it to the blog.
Here’s a photo of a wee stuffed doggy that used to belong to my mom before she passed away. She had a bunch of them. They were her pets. Her favourite ended up in the casket to keep her company in heaven while this one ended up with me. That was five years ago. The photo of my folks beside it is from Christmas in the 1960s on O’Hara Ave in Toronto’s west end.

Knowing how popular photos of my hand are to my friends and family, I thought I’d post a photo of it for all to see and bask in its glory. Yep, there it is, the culprit behind all my shaky photos. Coincidentally, that’s exactly the same way I hold my pen when I’m signing autographs.
Here’s a photo of my second pet moose. He’s a biggun. He likes to stand on my Stephen King books and watch the moose under the lamp. Sometimes in the night I can hear the fridge door open and in the morning I notice I’m missing some of my salad fixings. Damn scavengers. They don’t make good pets.
I always enjoy macro photography, but my little panasonic point & shoot can do only so much. Anyway, I decided to try shooting some stuff around the house today. This moose makes up the base of a nice lamp my mom bought me a long time ago. I love this lamp. Later I’ll post a photo of the bookcase with the lamp on it so you can get an idea of the actual size. All in all, my macro shots came out okay. A bit of noise, but that’s to be expected. Once I get a dSLR I will be able to catch much cleaner shots. I decided to create a new category for my macro shots.
EDIT: A handful of these shots failed because my camera simply refused to focus on what I wanted. I just went back at it, but this time when the camera focused on the wrong part of the moose, I locked the focus and moved the camera until the right part came into focus. I managed to catch two more photos that I’m very happy with. I’ll post them later.
