Magical Christmas Robin

Photo Artadmin28 November 2009

What is this? It started as a photo of a robin hunting for red berries on a very snowy day late last November. Then, it was oil painted in Topaz. Finally, a Christmas hat and some Christmas tree bulbs were added using Picnic.

Achoo!

Photo Artadmin28 November 2009

Another photo from my night shoot. I don’t know why I thought this would make a good photo, but here she be, none the less. Enjoy. I just got in from a movie, The Road. It’s based on a novel by Cormac McCarthy, who also authored No Country for Old Men. Both books were outstanding, and now that I’ve seen both movies, I can say they are also both outstanding. I’ll warn you, though, the road is not a pleasant movie. Very dark, post apocalyptic stuff. Where 2012 was an exciting, action pact thrill ride, this was a realistic snapshot of what the end of the world might actually look and feel like.

Flat-iron Building at Night

Photo Artadmin27 November 2009

Here’s another photo of the Gooderham Building, aka the flat iron building, from my Heritage Lighting Event outing. I got lucky with the car taillights, honestly wasn’t expecting that.

Soup

Photo Artadmin27 November 2009

A continuation of the lack and white theme, but this time I was trying to create a little nostalgic feel by using a familiar image most people can relate to. I also went for warmer tones in the gray scale in order to increase the nostalgic feel.

Skywatch Friday - Scarborough Sunset

Photo Artadmin27 November 2009

Here’s my Skywatch Friday photo for this week. I took this in Scarborough (Toronto suburb) at Brimley Rd. & Ellesmere Ave. a week or so back on my way home from the mall. If you’re a new visitor, you’re welcome to the slew of photography links and tutorials in my sidebar, along with some of my poetry for your entertainment. It would be great if you could take a moment to add my blog to your blogroll, if you’re feeling generous. Thanks for dropping by.

You’re closer to a brighter future

Photo Artadmin26 November 2009

Hmmm… if only that were true. Anyway, not too sure about this one. I’ve had it a while but I’m not 100% sure it works. I’m attracted to the artificial lighting and its reflection off the car hoods. I added a blur effect to the outer edges of the photo and dialled up the contrast a bit. This is quintessential street photography, if you ask me. :) Hope you like it.

P.S. Tomorrow’s skywatch Friday and I have another nice sky photo, so I’m hoping you’re drop by for a peek. ;)

Demi Moore sort de ce corps !!

Photo Artadmin26 November 2009

The Bridge

Photo Artadmin26 November 2009

Yet another from my Glen Manor Ravine outing. This bridge spans from Pine Cres. to Williamson Rd. Back when I was a child I walked this way to Glen Ames Jr. High every day. I can’t begin to express what a miserable experience I had in school for pretty much my entire childhood. Oh well, life goes on, right? Back to the bridge. When I was a boy the span was an old wooden one. A few years back they updated it with a surprisingly attractive steel structure. I’ll post a couple more photos at another time that will give you a better sense of the thing. With this photo I thought it looked best in black & white.

HEADS UP: For those who get the Bravo TV channel, PhotoXplorers is on tonight at 7:30 PM. It’s a half hour program that follows four photographers as they explore abandoned buildings and other derelict sites throughout Europe. What I really like about it is you see the buildings through the eye of the videographer, getting a “regular” perspective of the space, but then they show you a few of the photos each photographer has taken. Through these photos you can see the hidden art within the walls of the structure. It’ll make you think about what you look at a little differently, at least it does for me. It also makes me realize just how much I’ve got to learn. ;)

The End of Autumn

Photo Artadmin26 November 2009

Here’s another photo from my Glen Manor Ravine outing on the weekend. As you can see, autumn’s finally wrapping up its season, with only the most stubborn leaves putting up a valiant final fight. Halloween, Thanksgiving and the Santa Parade have all past us by and Christmas is but a month away. Soon the cold dark depths of winter will sweep in low and grip the land in an icy, unrelenting bond. Unbelievable, really. The older I get the faster the seasons seem to slip by. On a sad note, I will be attending the funeral of a close friend’s mother this weekend. She passed away from cancer on Tuesday. I hate funerals, but he’s like family to me so I have to go.
