Panoramic Playground

Photo Artadmin28 December 2009

There’s this school not far from my home that has a back field that sits about 30 or so feet below the street level on Gerrard St. I can’t remember the name of the school, but it’s near Coxwell Ave. I think it’s Bowmore, but I’m not sure. Doesn’t matter. Anyway, I’ve been meaning to get out and take a handful of photos to stitch together into a panoramic shot. Well, today was a nice day so I figured, why not. And here it is! Hope you like it. You might have to click the image to enlarge, if you want to get the full impact.

This photo is from the St. Lawrence Market area, down on the Esplanade, taken the day of the Heritage Lighting Event back in October.

Catwalk

Here’s a photo from my Scarborough outing a couple of weeks back. Not sure what these silos hold or even if silos is the proper name for these. Hope you like it.

My feet are cold

Photo Artadmin27 December 2009

Here’s another photo from the Waterworks. I saw this poor gull standing on the icy pier and figured he’d make a “cool” subject. I really like how the blue worked out in the photo. Hope you like it too. By the by, this is my first post directly by email. Not sure how it’ll work out, but we’ll see.

The tower, the steps

Photo Artadmin26 December 2009

What a day. I literally spent the entire afternoon editing photos. The good news is I’m all caught up. This is a black & white photo of the Waterworks, from a week back. I’m pretty surprised at how many of my Waterworks shots came out. Hope you like it.

Waste Baskets

Photo Artadmin26 December 2009

While walking along the beach yesterday I came upon a pile of wire garbage containers all stacked up for the winter, locked being a chain link enclosure. So I poked my wee lens through the holes in the chain link and shot some closeups of the pile. Here’s one of my favourites. Hope you like it.

Pump

Photo Artadmin26 December 2009

I ran across this truck down at the Waterworks. I took this photo and another closeup of the back, which I’ll post at a later time. I seem to be really drawn to gritty, industrial-type subjects. Hope you like it. Happy Boxing Day.

Barking at waves

Photo Artadmin26 December 2009

I met a few dogs today, all very friendly and having an absolutely wonderful Christmas day at the beach. With this little guy I got lucky. He was bouncing around like crazy and I just couldn’t get the shot. Then he stopped and bingo! By the way, you might notice the white balance is a bit off in many of my beach photos. I was trying something different, where I set the WB towards the red, knowing that in post processing this would let me get a surreal effect to my photos. It’s not so much in this one, mind you, but you’ll notice the colours are unnatural in others. Just wanted to mention it up front so you don’t think it’s a mistake. Of course, if you don’t like the look, then feel free to think it’s a mistake. :)

Desolate, lonely landscape - Skywatch Friday

Photo Artadmin26 December 2009

It figures, right? While everyone else is busy posting their fabulous photos of Christmas tree ornaments or shots of their kids opening presents Christmas morning, I have to post this post-apocalyptic photo akin to something you’d see in that movie, The Road. Merry Frikkin’ Christmas, is right! :)

Here’s the thing: every Christmas for many years I’ve made a point to go out for a very long walk down the beach to reflect on the past year and the new one around the corner. This is the first year I brought a camera with me (keep in mind, I only started my photography hobby back in June). Well, while we have no snow at all in Toronto (it’s actually raining here right now), we did have a very windy day and the lake (Lake Ontario) was angry and alive. I was out for half the day and snapped hundreds of photos, of which I’ll be happy if a couple of dozen are good. Here’s my first (after post-processing). It was taken down by the Leuty Lifeguard Station in the east beaches of Toronto. And it’s also my Skywatch Friday post for this week. Merry Christmas everyone. Hope my photo’s not too depressing. :)

As for Christmas, it was nice. Dad came over for dinner and it went great. We drank some wine and gabbed and watched TV, etc. He went home happy and with a full belly. Me, I’ve got like hundreds of new photos to go through and decide which are worthy of editing/posting.

UPDATE: This is like the forth incarnation of this photo. I wasn’t entirely happy with it yesterday and tried re-editing the original again. Took three more tries to finally get this, which I’m a bit more pleased with. I think the problem is that the photo is just a smidge blurred, because the wind was making it hard to hold still. Anyway, I’m much happier with this one. Hope you like it too.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Photo Artadmin25 December 2009

I took these photos a while back during my night outing. I posted a couple of similar photos but these two are of a different store front window. I thought tonight would be an appropriate time to post them (if not now, when?).

Tomorrow I’m having Dad over for Christmas dinner. Actually breaking out the BBQ for this one – a nice pork roast. Typically, on Christmas day I go for a long walk along the boardwalk and enjoy the peace and quiet. Tomorrow’s supposed to rain, but I’ll probably venture out anyway, with camera in tow, of course.

So here’s wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and happy new year. To everyone who visited my blog since its inception last June, a huge thanks. To those who return time and again and are kind enough to leave encouraging and supportive comments, a special thank you for your time and generosity.
