Latest Camera Gear!

Photo Artadmin28 February 2010

Here’s another photo from The Brickworks. On another topic (Olympic hockey related) , I can’t believe Canada let the U.S. tie it up with only 24 seconds left in the third. Now we’re into overtime. That can’t be good. Oh well. Go Canada Go.

Ancient Hook

Photo Artadmin28 February 2010

This photo comes from the Distillery District, taken a couple of weeks back. The hook once held a pair of wooden shutters closed over a window. It could be over 100 years old, I’m not sure. I’ve sharpened it up a bit and dialled up the contrast and saturation. Hope you like it. I’m on my way downtown for another photo outing. Not really sure where I’m going yet. Wish me luck.

Crowded Housing in Black & White

Photo Artadmin28 February 2010

This photo is from an outing a few weeks back in the west end of Toronto. The building is on King St. near Jamison Ave. if I recall. Anyway, the scene sort of reminds me of what apartment blocks in the old Soviet Union might have looked like, but to be honest I have no idea. In case you’re wondering, I purposefully did not correct the lens distortion, as I feel it gives an off kilter feel to the photo that I like. Anyway, hope you like it.

How to hold a camera for blur-free shots

Photo Artadmin28 February 2010

I know it might sound like a no brainer, I mean, we all figure out how to hold the bloody camera pretty quick, right? But figuring it out and doing it right isn’t necessarily the same thing. Scott Thomas, who runs the Views Infinitum blog, has posted some great information on holding your camera for blur-free shots that’s definitely worth checking out. While you’re there, check out the photo for this post, which is remarkably sharp. Nice work, Scott. You can read his post on The secret to sharp photos III here.

Red Bench on Drugs

Photo Artadmin28 February 2010

Came across this with Mauro a few weeks back. We both snapped off a few photos. I think this is on Church St. north of Bloor St., if I recall.

Street Preacher in Black & White

Photo Artadmin27 February 2010

This guy was hilarious. He’d stand there and as people walked by he’d jump in their face and yell, “Let Jesus into your heart” or something to that effect. Frankly, I have no doubt he works for the Devil, since his approach did nothing but turn people off. He’d then break out laughing as the shocked person carried on with his or her day. But I have to admit it was entertaining to watch. And I had to grab a photo of him. Take note of the person standing in the middle of the street looking up at something. I’m not sure what. And see the homeless guy sleeping on the sidewalk? Take note of him because he comes up in another photo later on. Oh, I should mention that this was out front of Toronto’s Old City Hall, at Bay St. and Queen St. Hope you like it.

Christmas Trees on the Beach

Photo Artadmin27 February 2010

I call them that because the photo was taken on Christmas Day. As you can see, we did not have a white Christmas. But we’ve got lots of white now. With March around the corner, however, how long can it last, right? Spring is almost sprung! Yay! I bet those throughout the eastern US couldn’t be more happy.

Street Car Downtown

Photo Artadmin27 February 2010

Last photo of the day. Not sure about this shot. I tried tracking the streetcar so as to get the background in a blur of movement while the streetcar remained sharply in focus. But I think I was too far away. The streetcar is indeed in focus, but you can’t really tell at this distance. I also might have done well to shoot this in landscape mode. But I still like it. Hope you do too.
